The Why

As longtime practitioners of Digital PR, we were tired of both existing PR software (too limited, too expensive, or both) and of the long manual process involved in identifying the perfect press contacts. We thought that existing PR software was overly broad in how it defined writers’ beats, making it difficult to actually figure out who to pitch for any given campaign, and it also seemed overly geared toward mass-outreach email sending, which runs counter to the values of personalization and relationship-building that we have learned are crucial to success in public relations.

The How

Convinced there was a better way, we built LedeTime, a public relations management system that lets everyone from PR novices to experienced pros do outstanding PR work. Our media database indexes thousands of data points per press contact, and our proprietary natural language processing models quickly identify the nuances of a writer’s beat. With our fast-but-personal approach to email outreach and advanced analytics, we help our users send better outreach emails and build long-lasting relationships with their press contacts.

LedeTime is meant for the public – that’s both people who have been doing PR for years or those just getting started – and they are at the core of everything we build. This means that what we make and how we think serves a broad set of people and companies, not just agency veterans and people who know all the right lingo. We are always mindful of the wide range of customers who use our tools and we build things that help can help anyone doing PR to achieve their goals.
Courage Always
Everything about PR takes courage, from reaching out to someone powerful to standing tall at your company’s front line, shaping its perception in the world. That means we’re courageous at LedeTime, too: From voicing unpopular opinions, to taking calculated risks, to making hard decisions with the best data available. We do not shy away from appropriate confrontation and never hold our own personal opinions or methods as sacrosanct.
Stay Curious
Discovery is at the heart of LedeTime – it’s a place to find journalists, publishers, or topics you didn’t even know existed. We constantly seek out new ways to do things inside and outside of our specialties and never settle for doing it the way someone else does it just because that method might be easier. We look for simple answers first but are OK with complex answers to complicated problems.
Communicate the Little Things
We discuss company issues clearly, candidly, and frequently, and we avoid making assumptions until we’ve done the work to understand the full story. We respond promptly and helpfully to colleagues in need of feedback, and we aim to respond logically and articulately to issues that arise. If there is something to read and review, we read and review it; we do our homework.
Inclusion Requires Real Work
Every type of business in the world, if it grows, eventually needs to do public relations. Much like LedeTime is a product for all businesses, we are a workplace that values the identities and beliefs of all employees. We acknowledge biases and do the work necessary to shed them, and we step in forcefully and immediately if we see someone being marginalized. We embrace different backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives because we know they help us make better decisions and make us better people. Simply saying we are inclusive isn’t enough – we aim to continually prove it throughout hiring, training, retention, and product.
Collaboration is a Constant Effort
Software and PR are both an art and a science; doing them well requires a team with a wide range of specializations to collaborate effectively. This means that while we may have hyper-specialists, it’s incumbent on everyone to be able to clearly communicate their work to others and to give and receive feedback both within and beyond their area of expertise.
There’s Always a More Innovative Way
We are constantly pitching new ideas and seeking new solutions to old problems. We challenge conventional thinking around what works and what doesn’t and aren’t afraid to change our approach if a superior alternative becomes available.

Just like in PR, we care about outcomes much more than effort. Our team members achieve amazing things, push one another to be better, and seek to be the types of people who others can rely on. We never preference effort over impact, processes over outcomes, or hours worked over results achieved.
